NEUTRON Our latest surf kayak the "NEUTRON" is now in production. A 100% performance orientated barnstormer, strong emphasis has be put on power and how the kayak can generate more from the wave. When we finished with the power we took away the resistance - the result... With the flat hull low rails and power pocket rear end you will send this boat into orbit. Ski type Ariels, slides,360's and floaters are here!
It offers the smoothest flowing ride on mellow waves, the ability to grip a wave like mad when things get bigger, speed that will alter your perception on life and carving ability sooo tight and soo smooth you will feel like your surfing .....a super grippy smooth thing!!
The Neutron is taking the Kayak surfing world to new limits - places that others can only dream of. Get a life, get a Neutron!
Reviews of the Neutron:
I have been my Neutron for 3 months now and it's brilliant It could just be one of those boats that define a generation ( like the spud, Pyrahna 240, Riot Glide etc...) I came to it from paddling a Marauder and a Pro Designs Ski Both of which are awsome but were not without a pile of trepidation every time I hit the surf. It took me a couple of days to sort out the fittings to suit me - I also went for the "Italian seat" option which combined with Mega's new thigh brace's gives more point of contact with the boat than you could ever dream of.
The thing about the Neutron is that it just makes you smile every time you surf it. No matter what conditions you go out in it just deals with them really really well. It get's out back easier that any other boat I have come across. It's take off is almost instant. Direction changes seem to only require telepathy. It has masses of carving grip but will also slide out if required for floaters etc. it is also really smooth on a wave ( check out the photos on this page and you will see there is hardly any wake it should give you an idea what I mean)
If you do mess it up it deals with the pile like it was soft cotton wool. THIS BOAT HAS NO VICES you don't have to think "I want to try that move but it may hurt if I don't make it".
The Neutron is going to take my surfing on to levels I didn't think possible.
Try one - it will put a smile into your surfing!...............Pete Holgate.
" Having been involved heavily with high-performance wave-ski's through the 80's and early 90's I have always felt there's been something lacking in the design of most surf kayaks available to date. The Neutron breaks that mould. Ski-like performance, Kayak-like comfort, gives everything a dude (and dudette) could wish for in surf-boat: Sensational speed, carving or slashing: This boat can do it all. Whether you want to pop 360 airs, or simply just cruise, the best seat in the house is in the Neutron... " Richard Sim.
" Finally got the boat out on the water on Sunday in conditions that can only be described as painful. The waves may not have been perfect but the boat was, what a craft that is. It just makes everything seem natural and easy letting me achieve things effortlessly at which I would normally struggle.
Thanks, thanks and a bit more thanks.... Denzil
Neutron
I don't always gel instantly to a new kayak and I have to confess the same was true with the Neutron. My first half hour I was finding it a little bit frustrating. “New boat, looks like an awesome design, why am I not tearing it up?” After reminding myself that I had been surfing a Prowler for almost 4 years and that it might not quite respond in the same way that the Prowler does I started to relax and let myself follow the natural flow of the boat.
Speed. It likes to go fast. Made a couple of sections on a heavy Portballintrae left hander that I've never made in the Prowler and only seen a few very good boardies make and hold. Its flat hull design reduces the friction allowing that extra bit of zip which just might pull you out of a sticky situation!
That also in turn allows for a slicker top turn with the short tail flashing around above the top of the wave. I have been particularly enjoying turning back of the pile in smaller waves as the whole boat flicks around and drives out of the pocket in an instant. I would describe my off the whitewater turns as very good but have always felt a little staggered. I love the feeling of power of the pocket turning and driving you away in what seems like an effortless movement.
Bottom turns have become quite dependant on the fins in the Neutron due to the slicker hull. Why not? If you've got them then use them. Positioned slightly further back than in previous surf kayaks allows the nose to swing around more and be more vertical on exit from the bottom turn. My goal in surf kayaking is to be able to snap turn the way a good surf boarder can and I believe that this kayak is the one that will start to do that.
I did manage to go aerial in my first session but only after a bit of practice. Part of the skill needed to pull of an aerial manoeuvre is your timing out of your bottom turn before heading up to the lip and hopefully skyward. I struggled initially due to the fact that I was coming out of the bottom turn too late not realising the speed I had and shooting up into the pile and missing the pitching lip I was after.
Do I like it? After riding a wave where I pulled clear out of a big barrel before nailing a big air that had the one person who was watch seeing only my hull above the wave I would have to say I liked it! It's going to be fun! Enjoy.

Got my new neutron the other day, so far haven't had the best surf to try it out in but here are my thoughts.
On receiving my boat the first thing that grabbed me was the build quality. Absolutely superb! Well worth waiting for! On hitting the water with it found that it paddles out sooo easy, nice n quick, not tippy in the slightest, and a very comfy seating position. Had my best surf in it yesterday, about 2-3 ft nice n' clean.
This boat catches waves real easy and accelerates hard, bottom turns as tight as you like and keeps all
its speed back up the face and seemed to deliver me right into the critical part of the wave to bust a nice turn of the lip etc. Cutbacks, spins etc all better than I'm used to!
The coolest thing I noticed so far as soon as I surfed this boat is that on reading the wave and reacting to it I seemed to have more time usual as it was effortless to position the boat just where it needed to be. I'm very exited about the future with this boat, think it's gonna re-invent my whole surfing style. Haven't aired it yet but don't think it's gonna be all that long!
Can't wait to get out in a bigger swell as I can feel the potential of what this boat has to offer. LOTS!
Cheers to Malcolm
and all the guys at Mega. I'm totally stoked! This really is one hell of a boat! Happy paddling all and try out the neutron if you get the chance you will not
be disappointed.
Designed
by Spencer Cooke in the USA the Charger is a great crossover boat.
Surf the Ocean, Surf the River. Its diminutive length does nothing
to detract from its speed on the wave , and its significant buoyancy
in the bow lets you take the latest of drops without fear of going
straight on down to the bottom.
Incredibly manoeuvrable as you would expect from such a short kayak
,it also carves great with its tri / fin setup and drives hard up
the face. Getting 'air' is well within it's repertoire.

It's
all about power with little demon! It has the deck of a modern play style
and the hull of a short board! What does this give you? Grip, grip and
more grip - on steep powerful waves this boat will blow away the competion.
It
carves tight, so tight it will carve back on it's self. It grips the wave
face and will climb right up the wall to leave you at the point of most
dramatic wave power.
Then
when things get a bit tight in the wipeout zone it's short length lets
you use playboat moves to escape the mush and go back for more and more!
Check
out the video page to get an idea of what this boat can do for you.
Mega International Kayaks Ltd presents ...THE PROWLER
UFO PROWLER
The UFO Prowlers is the latest addition to the UFO range of High Performance Surf Machines. Very different to the other kayaks in the range it is both shorter and wider. Its first outing in Wales brought the now expected thumbs up. Very VERY quick, No vices, and the increased bow rocker allowing for suicidal take off's.
Does it Fly? The test pilots say YES. A little less roomy than the Marauder or the Predator but still OK for 6' + The Prowler turns on a sixpence (a dime for you guys over the pond).

Mega International Kayaks Ltd presents ...THE REVENGE
Utilizing Honeycomb for both hull and deck the Revenge is now down to 12lbs as a shell and a shade over 13lbs outfitted. Rigidity is awesome (a major requirement for speed)!

" Hi Malcolm, Took boat out yesterday in solid 4ft, first wave got air off the lip best surf I've had in a boat did everything that I wanted."
Mega International Kayaks Ltd presents ...THE INTRUDER
INTRUDER
Straight out of the West Coast stable of Randy Phillips and Vince Shay the Intruder is a very different surf kayak from all its predecessors. Minimalist hull profile, wider in the tail and seat positioned significantly towards the back the Intruder turns very much like a wave ski, off of its tail.
The secondary chine on the hull has been kept to a bare minimum with sharp release rail from bow to stern. Entry rocker in the bow is considerable to facilitate seriously late "take offs", and also makes getting out thru the soup more of a "hop over the top" rather than a punch thru.
Tail rocker is minimal and is a very shallow "V" in cross section . This boat is very VERY quick and due to its almost flat hull it is also very stable.
A range of paddlers, both size wise and abilities tested the "Intruder" at Watergate Bay in Cornwall and all indications from their response's are that this is going to be a very good surf kayak, particularly in big steep conditions. There's plenty of room for the bigger guys and it should float 210-220lbs comfortably.
Mega International Kayaks Ltd presents ...THE MARAUDER
Marauder PE
A development of the awesome Marauder the PE has been tweaked for the bigger guys amongst us. An inch wider in the centre and around 2" in the tail. The Cockpit has also been enlarged by approx 1" in the width and 3" on the length. The overall effect giving a much roomier boat, with more overall carrying capacity. The rails and transitions have been hardened up giving a a crisper release. The fin boxes have also been moved aft.
Marauder Reviews
This is the boat that took the surf kayak revoution by the scruff of the neck and left the competion in awe.
First of all it's fast - seriously fast! This boat is so fast that you don't need a wave to take off - a swell will do, this means you take off point is 10-20metres further off shore that other surfers (kayaks, ski's and boardies).
Then it carves with so much grip that the G-force makes your eyes bulge!! There is no slip it the hull what so ever.
The whole package is about speed and precision - It opened up the possiblity to take on the big scary waves of the world like Teahupoo (see below).
It is also drop dead gorgeous to look at - On any beach or car park sitting on it's fins people will walk over and look at it (walkers, boardies and kayaker)! It a bit like owning a classic ferrari or GT 40. It's a bit special!
Review by Peteos
(Dr of Gill development in homo sapiens -University of Rangooon!)
(England, June 30 2003,. Unedited press release from Bill Mattos and published on www.playak.com). Four well-known British kayakers have returned from French Polynesia in the South Pacific after a month of surfing some of the best reef-breaks in the world. Bill Mattos, Nathan Eades, Steve Childs and Tim Denson were the first kayakers successfully to surf the fearsome Teahupoo, well-known to surfers as the heaviest and most brutal wave in the world.
As well as the speed and power of its crushing lip, much of the wave's terrifying reputation derives from the almost dry reef onto which it breaks. Since Teahupoo was revealed to the world in 1998 it has claimed a number of lives, and continues to be the worst nightmare of many pro-surfers. The boaters were more than equal to the task however, as were their carbon-kevlar Marauder surf-kayaks supplied by Mega Performance Kayaks. Both boats and paddlers returned from the trip largely unscathed, confounding many eminent critics who had billed their trip as an "impossible mission".
As well as the headlining Teahupoo, the boys were able to surf many more beautiful breaks including some secret spots that they were privileged to be shown by the local surfers, and bring back not only a mountain of photos and video but also the knowledge that kayakers can be accepted and encouraged by other surfers at some of the most heavy-duty locations in the world.
Mega International Kayaks Ltd presents ...THE MUSTANG
MUSTANG
The performance of the Mustang really has to be experienced to be believed.! "Very Ski like" according to a well known Welshman.. Very quick,
Turns incredibly tight, off of the tail.
And now Very Comfortable to ,but without compromising performance. Although the knees are high and thigh grips give great support the very low and streamlined rear of the cockpit keeps drag to an absolute minimum.
The Hull goes from a heavy concave at the bow to virtually flat in the centre and a minimal "V" in the tail.
Fin boxes are set well back further enhancing the superb carving ability . The Secondary release rail runs from bow to stern and the primary rails are sharp throughout.. Seams are kept well above the rail.
Mustang Reviews
"On sight of this new creation from Mega, I was excited to see that finally we as kayak surfers were about to get something that previously we have not been offered before. After first surfing this craft I was shocked to feel it waiting to free itself off the top third of a wave as I accelerated to the lip. I did manage to get air born, but due to the shock and knowledge of icy cold water beneath me I failed to land successfully on the green face. The Mustang bottom turns like no other, immensely tight with drive and good direction. Its' length concerned me as did the proportions. You are clearly seated in the back third of the Mustang, but this was not a problem on the paddle out Its' speed seemed uncharacteristic to its length on the paddle out and was certainly impressive as it charged down the line and past sections time and time again. This craft is not revolutionary by any means, but I truly believe it will push our skills to the limit and still not be tested to its full potential. For once, we are not restricted by design!?
A must have, in my book, and I'm certain that if you want to perform with the best in Costa Rica, it's a must have for you.
I can barely wait for the production model as R&D work has ironed out minor problems (not in performance but in comfort) and production models are going to have greater volume and more aggressive thigh grips. Hold on and go get your passport.
We have lift off!!
Test Piliot Ben Thomas after trying prototype!!!
Having spent the first 13 years of my surfing life riding all manner of boards I knew, when I first got into a boat 5 years back, that there were real steps forward to be made in surf kayak design. During the last 4 years I have surfed every high performance boat I could get hold of, but I have always felt that there was still room for improvement. However, I recently got hold of a Mustang, from Mega.
Based on the excellent Intruder design (from Vince Shay and Randy Phillips), the Mustang is proving to be an excellent all-round boat. I do not compete, and so I don't require an ultra-lightweight machine (although Mega can produce these), and therefore I have the mid-range weight and construction in my boat, the quality of which is outstanding. Once on the water I found the boat very easy to paddle and roll, and then I started catching a few waves. The speed of the Mustang on the wave face is unlike any other boat I have paddled; fast through the flats with speed that can be carried through onto the face. It is very solid through even the tightest of turns, where the Mustang has the ability to carry its speed through the maneouvers. The rails really seem to bite in the front half of the boat, yet they release easily in the rear third. I have surfed the boat in both a twin fin and single fin set-up and have found that it responds well to both. The twin fin set-up left the boat feeling extremely quick but very loose, whilst the single 6" center fin allowed a much more drawn out, carving type of surfing. I am very much looking forward to getting out on some bigger days with three fins in the boxes!!! If soul surfing is your thing then the Mustang seems to be a boat for all occassions...

The first time i took the mustang out was at steamer lane in california last year in march. the first thing i noticed was the paddle speed a lot quicker than my fury, the down the line speed was incredable with all 3 fins in this kayak has got to be the fastest thing i have ever surfed , usually with down the line speed you don't get the manouvrability but the mustang just turns with such confidence and on a round house cut back it just locks in so tight you seem to be able to put as much pressure on the rail.it carves with ease and as an all round competition surf kayak ( travelling the world unless you are royalty its an expensive game taking 2 kayaks 1 for big surf and another for small ) the mustang does everything you could want to do plus things that weren't possible in your old surf boat.In surf competitions you need a fast paddle out kayak and a fast surfing/radical manouvres kayak the mustang will do it all........big or small surf....
Darren Bason
I took my Mustang out for the first time this morning and I haven't stopped grinning since. It is absolutely fantastic! My previous surf kayaking experience has been in the Riot Boogie, the Mega X-ray (plastic version) and the Futurekayaks Response (carbon kevlar spec). The Mustang beats them all hands down.
On the way out the Mustang is easy to paddle and does not suffer from the inertia of the other boats I have paddled. The other kayaks have always taken two or three paddle strokes to get going, the Mustang starts to accelerate immediately. This leads to excellent take-offs. I did mess up the timing of my boof on the paddle out, at one point, and the nose consequently kicked vertical. Fortunately, the Mustang is very stable on its tail and it did not loop as I was expecting. Bonus!
Catching waves is very easy, as I said earlier; it has an excellent turn of speed. Once on a plane the Mustang has a very smooth feel to it (and you'll like this one), “like riding on a cushion of air”. It carves like dream and it is very eager to carve up the wave. My first experience of carving and turning speed was very surprising. I caught a wave just to the right of the peak and carved to the right before initiating a cut back towards the break. Things were going well and the thought of a lip turn entered my head. Unfortunately, as the thought appeared it was already too late, the speed of the turn and carve up the face had caught me by surprise and I was already punching off the top of the wave and over the back.
When I first saw the kayak I had dreams of consistent lip turns and vertical moves. Now I think it won't be long before I'm getting air!

Mega International Kayaks Ltd presents ...THE X-RAY
X-RAY
Based upon the Awesome "Revenge" Composite surf kayak the X-Ray 2005 has been tweaked and scaled up for production in High density polyethylene to produce a truly superb Hard Core Surf Kayak. This is a no compromise machine, hard rails and razor sharp secondary release rail. With virtually no hull flex the performance of the polyethelene X-Ray is comparable with that of its composite roots the "Revenge".
Significant entry rocker allows for those super late ,steep takeoffs and the low volume ends allow for rodeo style transitional moves.
For a small kayak there is a surprising amount of room, 6 footers should have no problem getting in and carrying capacity is around 185lbs (80kgs)
New for 2005 is totally revised outfitting including new a seat which has lowered the centre of gravity and also gives a much more positive and comfortable setup, combined with a lycra covered butt pad, adjustable thigh braces and footblocks. The Fin boxes have also been modified to accomodate our new anodised aluminium box.
Our range of colours now fall in line with the "Maverick" giving a much wider range of choice.
X-Ray comp Particularly suitable for the bigger guys the X-Ray comp has loads of room and volume for us 180+ paddlers . Again based upon the Revenge but considerably bigger and with a much larger cockpit.
